Ok, I give up.. 8GB is not enough RAM to get to Harvest 114. I can rez anywhere else, just not there.
Others get to Harvest 114, and they tell snicker at my amount of memory.... so I upgrade and will report back how much it takes, maybe I start with 16GB?

Are you sure you need that much ram for one experience? Something else may be wrong in your system. 8gb should be enough, how much video memory do you have?
I have a whole lot more RAM than you do, but when watching the game I never see RAM use go all that high really, it all performs well actually.
It is odd isn't it? I upped my virtual memory to 1.5 times my RAM, as per Garth's instructions. Others get into harvest, but they all had more ram than me. Do you know anyone with only 8GB of ram that gets into Harvest?

The only thing i can think of is you enabled XMP profile in bios to get a higher RAM clock, if so that means you only have 4G RAM (fast). So installing/buying 16G duo is what i did/would do. So sansar does not have to rely on the (slow) VRAM. even in Harvest.
Also it could be other things, I cant get into harvest either, and i have tons of ram. I think its my internet being so slow, Sansar just gives up and times out back to the main menu after waiting so long for Harvest to load.
Ive got 32GB system ram, and 6GB ram on my videocard too, so Ram is not the prob, and I never see Sansar RAM use get too high either, its quite efficient.
Actually I read somewhere its the sheer size of what must be loaded, they could have been off in the guess, but someone said it was over 20gb to download that sim? That cant be right, but even half that is far far too much really.
No 8 GB is generally not enough. Sansar not only downloads the scene but decompresses it. This means you almost need double the ram of the experience and harvest is one of the largest there is. The optional solution is to download and let it fail, causing some of it to get decompressed for you. Then try a 2nd and 3rd time until you have all the current scene decompressed, then it won't take as much.
8GB is barely enough for the OS and another app or 2 running.
Modern programs use more and more ram to improve efficiency
PS. your virtual ram won't save you here, it's way too slow in comparison.
Ahh I see, so its as I suspected and just my slow net that causes a timeout for me, but even after going back to try again it happens every time. Her issue might be not enough RAM as you've outlined though.
It's more a thing of the money you can spend.
You could instal extra 4G like you say, but why so minimal?
I would go for at least 32G with XMP-profile(bios) on.
