Clear guidelines for triangle count MD clothing

Could you please post some guidelines for the maximum tri count of 1 piece of clothing made in MD? Or any other limits.

I understand for non-MD it is supposed to be 8K? Is that higher for MD? Are there limits on a total tri count of a complete garment (MD or otherwise)? I see ppl eager to work with buttons and zippers in MD. They are fun but they insanely push up poly-count. 

I would like to make clothing that preforms well in Sansar and would not like to kill all the moves on a dance floor just coz I entered the club ;)

  Hi Bluebell,

       That 8k number should apply all round:

  Import requirements

  Some requirements and restrictions are imposed on importing clothing. Please make sure that your clothing follow these guidelines:

  • File type - .fbx and .obj formats are supported for rigged mesh clothing. .samd format is used for Marvelous Designer clothing.
  • Size limit - Clothing can have any size provided it is within the avatar's AABB (see Proximity to the avatar, below).
  • Triangle count - Each piece of clothing must be less than 8,000 triangles. 
  • Proximity to the avatar - Avatar clothing must be close to the avatar. The entire piece must be within the Axis Aligned Bounding Box (AABB) of the avatar. The AABB's area is as follows: 0.8m left and right, 0.6m front and back, and 2.2m tall from the feet of the avatar, and 0.05m below the avatar (to account for shoes).

  Hi Bluebell, after further investigation with our team, the triangle count set above only applies to rigged clothing. We currently do not have a set triangle count limit for MD clothing right now as it doesn't apply to MD clothing patterns.

  However, upon import, Sansar will convert the MD clothing pattern and generate a triangle count based on the size and particle distance of the pattern. Currently, if a piece of clothing's triangle count is too large, the system recalculates and reduces it down to a reasonable size.

  To prevent MD clothing's triangle counts from blowing up, we suggest the following best practices: 

  • Build your MD clothing at a 20mm particle distance. It is not a hard requirement to build at 20mm, however, it is the best to build at this particle distance for optimal results in Sansar.
  • Avoid making patterns that are too large. Larger patterns combined with the particle distance generates higher triangle count for a piece of clothing.
