Third person walking - Camera gets locked after each key-up

I'm not sure whether to see this as a bug or a new "feature" that I just don't like.

Let me start by complaining that I never liked how the camera stays pointed in one direction and strafes to follow your keyboard-driven movements for the first few seconds. After that, it "loosens up" and starts follow behind you more like a trailer. Then I'm happier.

But now, every time you let up off the keyboard, the camera resets into that locked-strafe mode. Can someone explain to me why this is better than the "trailer" style we're familiar with in SL? And is this a bug, or an intended new behavior?
