A number of other scripters have experimented with and reported an apparent memory leak in the scripting engine. I'm adding my own example here. Try out my new Clockworks Club experience:
When there, type "memory" in chat periodically. When the scene first starts up, it's using about 5 MB. Gradually, that amount creeps up. Then it backs off after some garbage collection. But over time, the used amount, as indicated by the peak usage, gradually rises. However, the momentary memory usage does occasionally go back down to about where it started, despite the gradual rise of the peak usage value.
While this could indicate a bad design in my scripts, I don't think it is. I offer this as a practical example scene for study by the scripting team.
