How do trademarks work on something like that?
Is "Sansar" a trademarked name?
If I write a book Sansar Scripting for Dummies! is that violating any laws?

Me, too. I'd hope that referring to it by name, without using the logo or representing it as coming from them, would be seen as advantageous, building additional traffic to them, not a problem. There are books referring to Second Life, including Second Life for Dummies!
I did include the notice that they said needed to be included when referencing or quoting material from this help site.
And I praised, thanked and acknowledged their vision and leadership.
So I hope it's ok. I guess we'll see.
One of the most popular instances of this I guess is Un*x (Unix)

And if it was a trademark infringement it'd put places like wikipedia out of business fast, so must be some fair use clause in existence for things like this.

That´s an interesting point. I just saw a speaker in the Store that has the Sansar logo and lettering. Not sure how far the fair use goes there, especially seeing that Sansar Studios are there as a Store seller as well.

Ironically if you named it Sansar Creator's Guide For Dummies, you have to follow their guidelines or Wiley would have a trademark case.
