The addition of animated textures?. My river moves now and my candles flicker! So exciting! And I see that we can upload animations for models now too. Can't wait to test that out! I feel like a kid in a candy store!

Richardus Raymaker Animated textures ? Did i mesh something ?
I know Animated mesh.
But textures i have not read anything about. -
beverly Zauberflote "did i mesh something"? hahah! i am stealing that!
i know, right? i sort of skipped over this part in the update notes:
"New Stereoscopic Media & Animation Shaders".....
go to https://help.sansar.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003259646-Materials-editing-and-shaders look for "Standard + Emissive + UV Animation"
for more info on it.

DynamicEvolution I'm excited Bev! I'm super freaking excited
-
Theanine The creative possibilities in Sansar have multiplied dramatically thanks to the new features in the last update. So many more cool things we can do now.

gfcprogramer My uldated lava inspiration have a test on that UV animated textures. I really want to access those properties from scripts. But for now is already great. We have so much to explore. Pitty my pc is overheating. I'm making a sketch of my Ideas out there.
-
Gindipple Yea a shame no scripting access to animated textures or mesh.
-
Cale Flanagan I didn't tested it yet, but does it also animates the normal map (and others), or only albedo? (thinking about water....)
-
DynamicEvolution @cale Flanagan,
The material as a whole.. the separate maps do not animate -
Theanine The flipbook shaders will animate all of the different maps together, simultaneously, if you upload them.
My Snake Face attachment on the store uses an animated flipbook normal map, as well as an animated flipbook albedo. Both animate together.
There is no setting in the shader to make some of the maps animate and others not. So I assume they will always animate, by default, if you include one..

Chris Jackson So, how do you do moving text, like a news ticker?
This seems to use only one image, instead of multiple frames, or am I missing something?
-
beverly Zauberflote I am familiar with two of the types, Flipbook and UV scroll.
Flipbook: One of the uses for flipbook is to make a candle flame appear to flicker. You create a texture divided into "frames". So for my flame example, this is my texture:
Then in material settings i specify that my texture is split into 4x4 frames (4 in the x and 4 in the y). When the texture is animated it reads from left to right/top to bottom at the step rate i specify. That gives the illusion of a flickering flame!
UV Scroll: (from the link: https://help.sansar.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003259646-Materials-editing-and-shaders ): For scrolling animation only; define the speed at which you would like the texture to scroll over the surface of the object in the X and Y directions.
UV scroll works great for things like moving water or your ticker tape!
-
Chris Jackson Hmmm, so for my use, to use your flame example, I would need each flame to be a single word? So what you show would be 4 words across? Read it like a paragraph?
-
beverly Zauberflote Chris, sorry, i was just giving two examples of usage. I think that your text might work better using the UV scroll. Your texture would be the word and then your uv map could be over just one letter of that word. then you use uv scroll in material settings and depending on your model orientation you would have it "scroll" in the x or y. Positive or negative. that is how i would approach it...but i haven't tested it, just thinking out loud! :)
-
Chris Jackson Sorry I didn't get back to this sooner...
...Yes, UV scroll is actually what I want it to do. If it can scroll, stop and hold for a period, then continue to scroll more would be ideal.
So part of what I want is the scroll to start with "BREAKING NEWS", it flashes 2-3 times, then...
...maybe " ... " and some more text.
SO when I unwrap a plane, I set the uv's over just the letter "B" of a texture that has the whole line of text written out across the png image?
The screen would be maybe 20-30 feet long and about 1-3 feet high. That's enough room for a decent sentence, and then what other text/sentences there maybe to display in the scroll.
-
beverly Zauberflote Chris, I don't know about the flashing etc. you would probably need a script for that. maybe someone who is a script-er will chime in. For my test i created an alpha texture:
then created a simple plane in blender, unwrapped it and applied this texture. On upload i used material setup of "Standare+Alpha+UV Animation". Setting for UV Scroll Rate for my model was X=.1
Hope that helps!

Chris Jackson Cool, it does work. I must say that exp needs a little content! LOL.
Seriously though, thank you for the help. I'll try it out.
-
beverly Zauberflote Lol, I keep it sparse so it loads uber fast for testing items.
-
-
beverly Zauberflote Very cool! How did you get it to stop and restart?
-
Chris Jackson Uhm, it doesn't. It's one scroll.
When I unwrapped, I placed the UV's over all of the text.
The albedo texture is 1024x128 (no other texture maps)...plane is 20ft x 2ft scaled down to fit the counter.
Single transparent layer of text, png.

beverly Zauberflote Must be my phone messing up playback. Very cool, I'll have to visit and check it out!

Richardus Raymaker Nice !
It's fun to so so much and fast progress.
The users go faster then the devs..
