Hello all!

With so many new faces, I thought it would be a great opportunity for people to tell us a bit about yourselves. I know some of you have already done so in other parts of the forums - feel free to paste in this thread, or re-introduce yourself :) For those of you who have not yet, take a minute to tell us a little about your self.

I will start ...

My name is Jennifer - but you can call me Jenn. I am the Lead Community Manager for Sansar. I am here to help however I am able, and look forward to seeing what everyone brings into Sansar. I wrote this Welcome post earlier this week, and hope you get a chance to read it.

I am sure we are all going to get to know one another better and better as we learn more and more. Tell us who you are!

  Hi everyone!  I'm a Sansar n00b (only been here for a few days), but I am a long time SL member since June 3, 2004.  I'm a VR enthusiast and building a purely a hobby.  In RL, I work in IT providing 2nd level tech support for an internal enterprise IT department.

  I am looking to start building a few experiences and explore the possibilities with VR.  If you catch me wandering other experiences, I'm likely in VR with my Oculus Rift.

  At the moment, I am learning the basics of modeling with Blender and I am experimenting with exporting from Oculus Medium and importing into Blender and Sansar.

  I am extremely excited about the promise of Sansar.

  Hello I'm Nice. I am also on SL and have no idea what to do over here. I haven't seen one person and can't find anything about what to do. I can go places and walk. I don't know where my inventory is or anything. seems like Linden labs went backwards 13 years

  Nice to meet you :)  I've been playing around with virtual worlds for a while now - probably too many to recount.  It all started with MUDs back in the early 1990's and then discovered Activeworlds in 1999.
  
  From there I found Adobe's Atmosphere in the early 2000's. Atmosphere left us, and honestly for a long time there was always something missing from each VR platform that didn't live up to it.  I think we are only seeing things like Sansar now that have finally caught up to what Atmosphere was.
  
  Next was Second Life, back in the days of only a few sims.  I remember when Magenta opened.  It was fun back then - a lot of firsts happening.
  
  Then off to IMVU, where I still have a catalogue going.
  
  Blaxxun, Friends Hangout, Nuvera, Twinity, Utherverse, Furcadia are some others.
  
  I've always popped back in to SecondLife from time to time, seeing it grow and change and become too outlandishly laggy for me to really enjoy.
  
  I like this place, Sansar.  The graphics are pretty.  It reminds me the most of Nuvera and Friends Hangout,  but up a notch.  Both are now gone, but Sansar is here.

  Hihi :D

  I'm also a longtime fan of virtual worlds, starting by escaping into a MUSH social scene when I was fourteen, eventually into SecondLife around v1.2. I've kind of been reapproaching a lot of things in life. I went back into SecondLife and recently discovered the character of the experience had changed, and I discovered a very different approach to building based on the rich library the marketplace represents.

  I enjoyed digging at things at that elemental/prim level, but sometimes I think I had difficulty holding a persistent vision long enough to populate it with all its set pieces built by scratch. Suddenly, though, powerful scenes were coming together from marketplace items in that new Mesh version of the world.

  Now I'm thinking about Experiences after spending hours in someone's zen garden in Grignano@SL. I don't have a VR headset yet, but there's a lot of fascinating potential if it got to a point where it was comfortable to dive because here then is a way of creating on ramps to experiences of all sorts, entertaining, enlightening, or just deep and/or spiritual, because it's the 21st century and it's perhaps time now to stop holding this stuff off at arm's length. It's cybernetic extension and immersion, it's injecting still more directly one's own mind into this realm of ideas.

  So wait, the Sansar building model sounds quite similar to the one I've finally woken to in SL, but I want to do this properly too, like, I should have stereoscopic views of my builds in progress so I'm maximizing this new medium.

  I want to get started, though I'm wondering what sort of skills might be in demand for collaborative projects here, and also if there are any open groups at a beginning level who are building things together I might join up with.

  Chroma, so far collaboration is kinda sparse. It's possible, but takes on new challenges here compared to like SL. You should join the discord server to connect up with people. There's even a new channel just for collaborations.

  As for skills pretty much all are needed. If you're good with making mesh in a 3D app that's a huge plus. Or you can do clothing in blender, maya, etc or in Marvelous Designer. Then there's the scripting, a bit more complex, but always need more in that. I've seen a few builds of things off the market place and they are looking pretty decent. But so far I think mostly that's been individual builds. Some day animators and theatrical set designers will be thing in here, but it's a ways off yet. Landscaping or land barons isn't really a thing here like in SL either.

  A VR headset isn't really required here, but I hear it looks even better with them.

  Hi folks.

  Middle aged Brit living in Switzerland. Over 12 years in SL. I'm an engineer with a voracious curiosity, but not too easy to please when it comes to user experiences. Expect constructive criticism.

  I'm on desktop for the time being, not so much due to cost as because I usually find 3D of any kind gives me headaches after a while.

  So far I admit I'm struggling and not finding Sansar either intuitive or easy to navigate.

  My avatar can't jump, even over the very smallest obstacles. That feels like Tomb Raider from the 1990s. I can't see how to text chat with anyone, if I ever actually met anyone. Nor can I see how to interact with anything in the environment, so my Sansar experience seems limited to walking around and looking at pretty views.

  I was very worried that Sansar would suck all the development effort out of SL, where I have a lot invested, so I was glad to see that SL is back to gaining new features.

  I am a semi-retired "guitar player" (in a band briefly 30 years ago, own 5 guitars, never play them) who just discovered the VR world. You guys make living under my rock SO much more interesting! Good thing I don't have a day job any more...

   

  I don't know if Bungies's Forge is honored here as a developer tool, but that's all I bring as far as relevant knowledge base. I've been dabbling since back in the Marathon days, if that counts.

  Name's Gypsy.

  I have a bit of 3D creation experience, but not anything official, and not anything to gawk at. I spend most of my time drawing, creating things in real world, making music, etc. I'm kind of just a creative beast. I learn quick, but I'm not entirely sure what to make of Sansar. The thing is, I have a TON of project ideas. Completely immersive experiences that are out of this world, and ... just idk. I feel like this is the most advanced platform that actually caters to creators that I've found, and relies on new age technology to create experiences that are as lifelike as possible. I just don't know how or where to start. I'd like to be a part of a team, work on a project, hash out ideas and whatnot. That's where I'd feel most confident, primarily because my skills with 3D rendering are not up to par as probably 99% of people on here. I feel like I could be a spark to existing ideas, or help create completely new ones. 

  I have a bit of ADD, so my attention span is iffy. However, if I feel this is something I can actually make something out of, I'm willing to stick to it. I've spent 10 years creating my own universe through every creative outlet I have, mainly writing, drawing, painting, music, etc, and being able to transfer a lot of this to this platform would be incredible. I just would like some knowledge on how this will work, and if I could be of any assistance, and if anyone could use my talents. Because I want them used. I'd like to create something tangible, that can be experienced over and over by others around the world. And I think that is incredible, and that Sansar is able to provide this experience.

  I am Bill.... 

  I have been working with game engines for a few years now... 

  I don't === like scripting in C++/java but I will if It is necessary ... 

  I started years ago at unity3d designing environments and wait ..

  I did three D design with ray tracing back on mainframes because nothing else could handle raytracing ... then I tried the bryce designing and such =-- I did lots of fractal design and video filter convolution matrix ... errrrr (sequences)  in like 2005  1993 was mac two bliss paint programing in "think C 5.5" I use a supernova II from novation as my sound design workstation... and a microkorg xl  I use AMD processor 8 core for the last four years.. or so.

  I Have teraquads of music and video... both === 4000+ youtube videos and almost 5000 soundcloud works of music/?

  Nerd does not describe me ... at all...    //// alias H92o ////

  Hi, I am also coming from SL since 2008 and a little bit prior too. 

  In RL, I do a lot of jobs and creativity is usually involved in some way.  Im partnered with some great people in an amazing organic kombucha company (our biggest project by far!), and have my own corp too. lol im a workaholic, especially when it comes to creative endeavors.  After all these years I can relax & be more free & creative now, as we have plenty of employees & budget in the kombucha biz. lol,startups are a tough grind...

  I work at various times in Business Development, Marketing, Sales, PR, Blender, Adobe CC, Web-Dev, Server Admin, Coding many non-gaming web-related languages, and learning more every day.  I have quite a good collection of projects to unleash here in Sansar, for work and pleasure.  I am really looking forward to the whole journey and seeing Sansar evolve! :)

  Hello all!

  I'm coming from a variety of worlds to check out Sansar. I am looking forward to learning how to build and create in virtual reality. What really attracts me is the simplicity of the process of moving content created in Marvelous Designer to Sansar. 

  I enjoy event hosting, brand building, social media tools, virtual reality entertainment, online radio, live music, etc. I am curious to see how Sansar does in the realm of "things to do" outside of creating and selling.

  Hi,Ive been in sansar before but I wasn't sure about it at the time - but since  I saw Sansar on Steam I came back to give it another try, and  I do still have problems loading some experiences up, but over all im enjoying creating fashion & being able to voice chat.

  Hi, Im new to VR having just got a Quest 2. Is Sansar just a development platform? Im pretty intrigued by the idea of jumping into a VR world and just exploring, interacting, etc.

  Maybe I watch too much of that stuff on telly. If this is purely development then its prob not for me

  Hey there Spacecat,

  First... I love your name!

  Second, Sansar can be whatever you want it to be. We have places you can just wonder around and explore. We have parties, festivals, games and events where you can meet other ppl. If you want to take it a step further, you can build your own place and have your own events. Some of us are artists, performers and scripters. If you know how to do any of that, you are set to go. If not, there is a store on this website that you can use to make your place pretty. You can have a lot of places (worlds) and they are free and very large. Sansar is a very kind platform and ppl will be willing to help you get started.

  Bluebell ...thanks for your comment. couldnt work out how to reply to your comment But think ive done it. Is there somewhere which explains fully how to get started accessing the worlds with my vr headset? Ive downloaded the Sansar software but cant find a startup guide anywhere.

  Im kind of new to VR ...mind you I have a sneaky feeling that the Oculus Quest may not be a supported headset ...I have got the Quest 2. Thanks
